Essentials: Winter 2013

Tuesday 12 November 2013

Hello lovely people!

It's been a couple of weeks since I lasted posted which I'm very sorry about but things have just been a little hectic lately and I haven't really had the time to sit and create a proper post with nice photos etc, so this is just a little post to keep things active on here and to satisfy my blogging bug.

Winter has well and truly arrived here in the UK and I have a few essential items that I've been relying on a lot over the last few weeks.

First off we have two Lush products: the 'None of Your Beeswax' lip balm and 'Handy Gurugu' hand cream. I absolutely adore these products and as they're both quite rich they are ideal for the chilly Winter months.
'None of Your Beeswax' is Lush's only vegan lip balm and it's wonderful stuff; with a coconut oil base, uplifting lemon infusion and nourishing cocoa, cupuacu and murumuru butters, this lip balm tastes and smells delightful and leaves your lips super soft.
'Handy Gurugu' is Lush's richest hand cream and it is filled with shea, peanut, pumpkin seed, cashew and almond butters as well as beautiful smelling rose water and fair trade vanilla absolute. As someone who used to be quite lazy with hand care, this hand cream has changed me and I now keep a sample-size pot in my bag to nourish my hands when I'm on the go (who doesn't love a little TLC on an early morning bus journey?)

Something else I've been really into since the temperature has dropped is candles.
Although I usually go for more earthy or natural smells (think nag champa or Lush's Karma range), I've been loving the salted caramel Yankee candle; my room has never smelled so sweet.
I've also been drinking a lot of coffee lately (which is nothing new), but this year I have a new favourite; a soya latte with sugar-free vanilla syrup, topped with a little nutmeg or cinnamon. With a lovely combination of sweetness and spice and creamy, frothy milk, this is the perfect Winter warmer, although I might have to push the boat out and try a gingerbread latte some time soon.
I've also included a journal in this as the cold weather calls for lazy afternoons curled up with a hot drink and a notebook. Whether you're scrawling down your thoughts or doodling aimlessly, there is something very satisfying about getting a pen to paper and letting your creativity flow.

Finally we have the clothing essentials. This year, for me, it's all about the parka, ankle boots, scarves and mittens. I've yet to actually buy a pair of mittens, but rest assured it's on my to-do list.
Once Autumn hit I hauled out my beloved Matalan parka from last year and boy has it been keeping me toasty, although the cream scarf I bought from Primark a few weeks ago has been helping a bunch, too.
I also decided to break out of my Converse comfort zone and pick up some ankle boots (also from Primark), and they've been keeping my feet (and ankles) snug and warm.

I'm hoping to free up some time soon to sit down and get some serious blogging done, but in the mean time I'll try to keep publishing regular small posts like this one.

I hope you're all well and for those of you coming into Winter, I hope the cooler weather isn't being too hard on you!

Namaste,
Rowan
