Today a lot of students received their A-level results and had to decide which road they wanted to take for the next stage of their lives. It can be a daunting time, but it can also be incredibly exciting.
Some of us will be staying in the same place, perhaps re-taking a course or starting something new. Others will be moving away, be that within our home countries or somewhere further afield. And of course, some of us have absolutely no idea what we're doing.
For all of us, though, a new chapter is starting, and that's something we should seize and take full advantage of. It's a chance for us to create new lives for ourselves, to move forwards and start working towards the things we've always wanted.
You might not have achieved the grades you'd hoped you would, and that might mean you've had to change your plans, but that doesn't make this time any less exciting or leave with you with any fewer doors open – it just means that your journey is starting differently than you had originally planned.
It can be scary starting a new journey and leaving your current one behind you, but without venturing down new roads we would never experience anything new, and soon enough our lives would become repetitive and somewhat mundane. So embrace the change. Embrace the fact things are changing, the fact you don't know what wonderful things are lying just around the corner, the fact you're about to embark on the most incredible journey and start living your own life. This is your time, your journey – enjoy that independence and freedom, and make it great.
