Autumn beauty favourites

Sunday 12 October 2014

It's been quite a while since a beauty post has graced this page, and as the new season brings a bit of a switch-up to most people's beauty routines, I thought this would be a good time to write one.

1. Lush 'Lip Service' lip balm (£5.75)
For the past year I have sworn by Lush's 'None of Your Beeswax' lip balm, a lovely lightweight lemon-y lip balm, but with the cold weather drawing ever nearer, I decided to pick up something a little heavier. 'Lip Service' is a much richer balm with shea butter and olive oil, and thanks to the cocoa butter and tangerine oil it has a slight chocolate orange taste which reminds me of Christmas. This balm lasts for quite a while on the lips and leaves them feeling soothed, smoothed and protected.

2. The Library of Fragrance Gin & Tonic perfume (£15)
My mum recently introduced me to The Library of Fragrance after she had seen their stand in Boots a week or so ago, and after looking on their website and seeing the large selection of perfumes they offer, I was excited to go in and have a sniff for myself. I already had a couple in mind that I liked the sound of (Snow, Moonbeam and Amber), I was surprised when the one I liked the most was Gin & Tonic. It's a light scent with a slightly citrus-y undertone, perfect for every day wear. Although it's a little more fruity than I would usually go for, there's just something about this scent, and I absolutely love smelling it on my skin. When pay day comes around I may treat myself to another, but for now this is going to be my go-to perfume.

3. Lush 'Light Yellow' colour supplement (£9.50)
This is a product I've been using for a couple of months now, but since I haven't written about it yet I couldn't not mention it. Lush's colour supplements come in five different shades, and they are a great alternative to foundation and concealer. If you like high coverage they might not be the best option, but if you like a natural, glowy finish and you like feeling as though you're not wearing any base at all, then this may well be the product for you. This little pot will be by my side throughout Autumn and Winter as it's very moisturising (thanks to soya oil and rice bran oil), and as its main ingredient is fresh rose petal infusion, it's nice and soothing for the skin, too. I use it straight to get as much coverage as I can and apply to my undereyes, over any blemishes and around my nose and the corners of my mouth. However, if you wanted a lighter finish, you could mix a little of the colour supplement with some moisturiser and use all over the face.

4. Lush 'Wiccy Magic Muscles' massage bar (£6.50)
I've tried a couple of Lush's massage bars and absolutely love them, but lately I've been using this one. The aduki beans in the top make it really nice and massaging for your skin, while the cinnamon and peppermint warm the muscles to ease aches and pains (not to mention making it smell nice and autumnal!). I've used this on tired muscles and a particularly achy elbow and it's worked wonders, plus it's made my skin lovely and soft.

5. Sleek gel nail polish in 'Revolver' and 'Coffee Tea or Me' (£2.99, both available in Superdrug)
No matter the time of year, I always lean towards darker, more muted colours, but in Autumn I have every excuse to wear them, and I love to extend that to my nails. I'm on the hunt for a new oxblood/burgundy polish at the moment, but until I find the perfect one I have these two to keep me going. 'Revolver' is a beautiful grey-lilac which adds a soft and subtle hint of colour, while 'Coffee Tea or Me' is a very classy and feminine dusky/nude rose colour.

What are your beauty favourites at the moment?

Namaste,

Rowan
