Renewal

Thursday 2 October 2014

Whilst walking to the bus on the way to work one morning this week and noticing Autumn's distinct crispness in the air, I started thinking about this most lovely of seasons.

As Autumn draws nearer, nature begins to let go of the old; leaves fall, flowers fade, and everything slows down, seemingly to a halt, until Spring returns. While Winter is a time of rest for nature, Autumn is a time for letting go in order to make room for the new.

We can take inspiration from nature during this time by letting go of the old and what no longer serves us, too. Be that an insecurity, a habit, a frame of mind, a behaviour - anything that holds us back from living the life we want to live. Once we have let go of those things, we can start to work on developing our more positive qualities, such as openness, compassion, self-belief or self-confidence, and we can enter the new year feeling refreshed, balanced and ready for what awaits us.

Although we can choose to let go of our old patterns and negative attachments at any time, it can be really beneficial to dedicate a period of time to it; it allows us to focus on our renewal more intensely and with fewer distractions, and we are able to give more energy to it, too, which will lead to a more whole and complete renewal and a greater impact on our lives. By setting aside a certain period of time to let go and renew ourselves, as nature does, we allow ourselves to enter the new year in a better place than we left the last one, free of negativity and full of warmth and light, ready to flourish and truly be our wonderful selves.

So let go - let go of old habits, negative thoughts or behaviours, anything you feel no longer serves you, and let your greater qualities bloom.

Namaste,

Rowan
